In a shocking turn of events, Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from her husband of two years, Ben Affleck. The “If You Had My Love” singer filed the divorce petition on August 20, 2024, coinciding with the couple’s second wedding anniversary in Georgia.
Lopez cited April 26, 2024, as the official date of separation, which was just days before the Met Gala in New York City. In the divorce filing, Lopez requested to revert her last name from Affleck back to Lopez and sought a court ruling to prevent both herself and Affleck from receiving spousal support.
The couple, affectionately known as “Bennifer,” rekindled their romance in 2021 after having been engaged in 2002, a commitment that was ultimately called off in 2004. They tied the knot in two ceremonies, first in Las Vegas in July 2022 and then in a lavish celebration in Georgia the following month.

Despite their wealth, Lopez filed for divorce without an attorney, which is quite unusual, and the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement, according to TMZ. This suggests that whatever transpired, they were fully committed to their relationship when they wed.
The divorce announcement came shortly after Lopez canceled her summer tour in May, stating that she needed time off to be with her children, family, and close friends, as per Live Nation. Notably, the date of the divorce filing coincides with their second wedding anniversary in Georgia.
Affleck’s best friend, Matt Damon, was present at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of the film “Unstoppable,” which was produced by Affleck and stars Lopez. Damon, 53, reportedly refused to speak to Lopez, 55, about her ex-husband Affleck, indicating that he will “always have Ben’s back.
“While the reasons for the divorce remain unclear, the couple’s decision to file without a prenup suggests that their love was genuine, and they were committed to making their marriage work. As fans, we can only hope that they find happiness in their separate paths and that their children remain the top priority during this difficult time.
